About Kehillat Shaarei Shushan:
Kehillat Shaarei Shushan (KSS) is nestled in the heart of Brooklyn’s Midwood
neighborhood and is home to a vibrant Persian-Sephardic Torah community.
Founded in 2024, KSS offers a community of united Persians looking to build on
their heritage and embrace the growth of our community. The membership is
eclectic in background and outlook and reflects our community’s dynamic nature.
KSS has no official affiliation with any umbrella organization and is only committed to our Torah true values, grounded in our unique ethnicity.
The position requires 36+ weeks annually of weekly in-person presence for
Shabbat, holidays, Sunday morning minyan and weekday Torah teaching beginning Elul/September 2026 with affiliation beginning August of 2025. The community can host suitable candidates and their families for Shabbat on a weekly basis. The longer-term outlook is to transition the role to a more full-time position with greater responsibilities as the shul evolves.
Compensation: Commensurate, depending on qualifications and experience.
Duties:
- Maintaining a consistent presence in the shul and the lives of its congregants
- Providing religious guidance and offering pastoral care, including support for lifecycle events.
- Co-leading shul programming with the Head of Bet Midrash
- Supporting and guiding the Board
It is understood that the position is part-time, and that the Rabbi will likely have
separate part- or full-time employment. The Board and the Congregation will be
understanding of this and will keep their expectations realistic within those
boundaries. The Board also understands that its support and partnership, and the active involvement of the shul’s membership, are essential to enabling the Rabbi to succeed.
Qualifications: Semicha or equivalent with multiple years of high-level yeshiva
background. Demonstrated experience in community building. Strong preference
for candidate of Persian background.
Expected Start Date: In person - September 2026. Affiliation and Board support
and guidance - June 2025.
To Apply: Please send a resume (with references) to info@shaareishushan.org. If you would prefer we do not contact your references immediately, please indicate and explain via email.
